I've seen every episode of Seinfeld, lived in Japan for 3 years and am married to a Japanese woman and I have to say that all of the Japanese characters in Seinfeld have been accurate comical representations and not really the butt of jokes through race. The business men were funny - at least one of them wasn't Japanese as far as I remember from his accent. Then there was the TV exec and his assistant - both minor parts. Other Chinese stuff ("they've seen the fork!") was funny too.

Watch the show. If you don't watch the show, then it doesn't concern you. Hearing about scenes taken out of context won't give you a good understanding of the situation.

What insults? Stephen's message to which you responded contained *NO* insults whatsoever. In fact, I can't find any insults (immature or otherwise) in this entire thread.

A lot of people in the UK found the Friends episodes set in England to be rather offensive. All the English seemed to be snobbish and dim-witted caricatures. As for Snatch, people don't tend to be so offended by a representation of them made by one of their own. It's when outsiders do it that it tends to cause offence.

Not sure about this but if you are suggesting that whenever an Italian is in a film they are a gangster then sure - that's stereotyping, possibly racist and Italian actors should have the chance to do better roles. This was often, and still is, said about women actresses and black actors/actesses. If we are saying that the Sopranos is offensive (i'm refering to both replies to my post here) as it is about the Italian mafia then how can it be - as it is about exactly what it is portraying - it would be more offensive if they hired non-Italian-American actors would it not? The same reason that as Snatch is about eastend gangsters in the UK it is not offensive to other Brits. Don't get me wrong I'm all for PC, affirmitive action, positive discrimination - call it what you will - but some times it just goes too far and things which present no problems at all are drawn in.

Okay, I think I just saw it tonight on a re-run was it when Seinfeld said that there was a billion chinese people and that deliveryboy from the restaurant might have encountered his relative? was that the joke?

Mikita's is a fictional representation of Tim Horton's a Canadian donut chain started by Horton who was a famous hockey player in the 60s and 70s (played defence for the Toronto Maple Leafs and Buffalo Sabres). he was killed in a car accident in the early 70s.
