Rumor has it he is based on a guy Larry knew who did a cable TV show in NY. The actor is Bruce Mahler who appeared with Larry and Michael Richards on Fridays, a short lived SNL-type show. The name Kirschbaum comes from a person who worked on Seinfeld named Bruce Kirschbaum; later the Rabbi became Rabbi Glickman.

I just pulled out the DVD and watched it, and it sure sounds as I remembered it, Elaine greeting the rabbi as Rabbi Kirschbaum.
The subtitles embedded in the DVD go as follows: Elaine: "Oh, hello, Rabbi Kursham". In any event it most certainly isn't Glickman!
OK, Thanks. So in The Postponement that is who he was then, probably named for Bruce Kirschbaum who wrote and consulted on a few of the shows, then they changed the name to Glickman the next time the Rabbi appeared.
