I think the name of this episode should have been "The Protege" instead of "The Fatigues." The protege is a better choice because it incorporates the fatigue-wearing psycho copywriter story line into the whole "protege" theme. The concept of "fatigues" really has nothing to do with George and the protege situation.

Most episodes have 2-3 storylines for all of the main characters. They can only name an episode on one. So with 2-3 storylines, the others are always out of the title. "The Fatigues" was Elaine's story, while the protege/mentor was George's story. Kramer's story was the Jewish singles function. In the end they all tied together, so two of the stories are not in the title, just like every other episode.
By the way, what's the deal with Ovaltine?

We don't know how much original film ended up on the cutting room floor as there may have been more regarding the army plot line of the episode. Since there was a visual parody of the vomiting scene in Oliver Stone's "Platoon" that may have been where they were going at first.
