Maybe I'm a bit thick, but I realized another tie-in to Nilsson's theme song from _Midnight Cowboy_ only after seeing this episode for about the fifth time the other day. Elaine goes to the Dixieland concert to pick up Mr. Pitt's prize and leaves nearly deaf. When she goes to Tim Whatley's party, everybody's talking... and at one point, she says, "WHAT?? I CAN'T HEAR A WORD YOU'RE SAYING!" Another reason to watch the repeats, since I apparently can't catch everything the first few times through.
Also: Bob Balaban (Russell, the NBC guy) was the student in _Midnight Cowboy_ who paid Joe Buck (Jon Voight) for the privilege of giving Joe a blow job - not that there's anything wrong with that; a person's lifestyle should be his/her own personal choice... Unfortunately, Joe wasn't as compassionate about the whole situation as he could have been...
And speaking of Tim Whatley, anyone else catch him in these JC Penney "office casual" clothing-line ads? If he insists on wearing this stupid-looking gear, his chances of being "invited upstairs" will drop precipitously, Super Bowl tickets or no Super Bowl tickets.
