I was channel surfing a couple of days ago and saw on Family Ties that JLD was on the show playing an attorney. She had her hair up, and had those oversize fashionable (upside?) glasses that were popular back then. Her character reminded me of a twist of some things she did on Seinfeld. Towards the end of the show, she was fighting with Alex, and it reminded me of the scene in Seinfeld of where she fights with George's father. The one where he says, "You wanna piece of me?" and Elaine says "I would drop you like a bag of dirt."
I don't know the exact date of when she did the Family Ties to know if it was before or during Seinfeld the TV Show was first scene.
