NYC liquor stores

In "The Dinner Party", George and Kramer go into a liquor store to purchase a bottle of wine. The liquor store had beer for sale.

I was under the imnpression that NYC liquor stores do not sell beer.

You're absolutely right. NYC liquor stores don't sell beer. This was mentioned in the Entertainment Weekly "Seinfeld" guide - the first one. Just a fluke. Good catch though.

Umm...sorry to ask, but having never been to NYC, where would you find beer? And why can't they sell it at liquor stores? Weird, I never heard that one before...

market/deli/gas station/etc. and pick up a 6-pack whenever I want . . . the
closest liquor store is about 15 blocks.   There's probably about 30 beer
vendors for every liquor store (guess).  Of course if you want wine and beyond,
the liq st is your only choice.

   Here in North Carolina, we can buy beer and wine in grocery stories,
but have to buy liquor in state-owned ABC stores.
   But that's nothing -- up until about 15 years ago, we had no liquor by
the drink.  If you went into a restaurant (bars couldn't serve hard
liquor, only beer and wine), you had to bring your own liquor, then pay
the restaurant to mix it for you (even if you wanted bourbon and water).
   But that's nothing compared to the weird liquor laws I discovered when
I visited Salt Lake City ...

That's wierd in Mass, the only place beer can be sold is at a liquor store. Beer can't be sold at convenience stores or supermarkets.

In South Florida you can get beer, wine and liquor from the same store.
In fact, my neighborhood liquor store is called "The Beer Barn".
