I'm not sure if the Seinfeld writers were deliberately making a point here, but my Kenny Rogers Chicken took forever to open and within a few months was out of business.
Did this happen to all of them, or just my local suburban Denver location?

Kenny Rogers Roasters opened in State College, PA sometime in 1993. It's still open.

Our Kenny Rogers in Oregon opened a few months ago and is doing big business. the chicken is great but the teriaki sauce is just dreadful and the BBQ sauce had waaaaaaay too much vinegar.

The one in Springfield Mo. closed down within 6 months but the Branson MO. was still open...
I havn't noticed it posted yet, but this episode was based on a true, first amendment issue, story. The light really was bothering a guy in an apartment over the Kenny's Roasters, and he tried in vain to get them to move it, etc but they wouldn't. So he out a big ol sign in his window, right over the restaurant, that said "BAD FOOD". Big lawsuit and a bunch of money later the courts said he had a right to put up that sign and the Kenny's Roasters moved their sign so he would get rid of his. :-)

Our Kenny Rogers in Niagara Falls CANADA was only open for a couple years. I loved the chicken but everything else was fat and chloresterol laden.

I've seen a commercial for it and it was the singer.
It's the singer. When one of the original franchises opened near my home, he actually came by for the grand opening, it was kinda cool. And it is really really good chicken incidently.

I asked the cashier if many people talked about the Seinfeld episode over the last few weeks and he said yes - It must have increased business a lot - It was why I was there.
For the Canadians in the group it is like a cafertera-sytle Swiss Chalet with a nicer selection of side dishes and salads. About the same price.

They played Kenny's obnoxious country albums constantly (the singer, not the ball player). They had photos of him all over but that country music of his just killed the place.

FYI, the recent Seinfeld storyline refers to a NYC Kenny Rogers franchise that opened beneath a lawyer's office. Despite several requests, the chicken joint refused to remove or to tone down the large, bright sign above its doorway. Finally, the frustrated attorney made a sign that said, "Bad Chicken-->" with an arrow pointing toward the restaurant. WOW - sounds like it should be a LAW and ORDER plot, - a chicken is found dead in New York, the owner of a fast-food restaurant is charged - Frank Costanza represents the accused (oops they already did that), the plot thickens when they find Jerry poured water on the chicken cope (oops they did that with pigeons) - actually Elaine pays to have the chcken shot for clucking too load (oops they did that with dogs) - any other crossovers with Law And Order? Wouldn't it be great if Jerry Orbach showed up in Jerry's apartment and we heard the ching-ching sound?
