It seems as though we've entered an era when TV will never again see a graceful ending like "M*A*S*H." If that show were on today, it probably would have stayed on five more years and only left when it really began to suck.

The reason is simple--once a TV show gains enough popularity to make it past its first or second season, the networks are loath to drop it even after five years 'cause of all the money it brings in. One could make the argument that Seinfeld probably should have gone off the air LAST year 'cause the quality had obviously been slipping.

Boy, did you pick a bad example. MASH hadn't been funny for years when it finally left. We had endured 3 or 4 years of Alan Alda's "look at me, I'm sooooo sensitive" version of MASH. I'll take a good Frank-torturing by Trapper any day over that crap.

I personally think the series end to "Newhardt" was really good where he wakes up in bed with his wife from "the Bob Newhardt Show" and the series "Newhardt" has been a dream.

I agree.I find the latter episodes are my favorite.That was when i began watching mash,If you compare them to the earlier ones of course that feeling is present.But at the time they were still good.
