as well. Astute Seinfeldians will note that the
interior of the real Tom's looks little like its
small-screen counterpart: Expect garish
fluorescent lighting, intoxicated Columbia students and
an always-ornery wait staff. But Tom's breeds
true devotion among area residents; regulars order
the Broadway shake (a chocolate and coffee ice
cream blend that's not on the menu) and the
legendary mozzarella cheese fries. Tom's is the
kind of establishment that doesn't exactly reward
the adventurous diner, so stick to standbys like
grilled cheese, omelettes and chicken
sandwiches � otherwise, you run the risk of the
inevitable indigestion. Come early for Sunday
"brunch," when the line outside the door can
rival Sarabeth's.
