I know that I've already put my $.02 worth in, but I feel a need
to explain myself.
I've been a fan since the beginning. I fought long and hard in
my school to get people to watch the show instead of Home IMprovement.
Well, they wouldn't, and the other Seinfeld fan and I stood alone.
The suddenly, NBC moved the show to Thursday, and an incredible
thing happened: The show became a hit. Everybody watched the show, and
Fridays were abuzz with discussions of the previous night's episode. I
finally felt good that more people watched the show that I loved dearly.
Then I joined this newsgroup, which seems to overflow with sharp
critcisims of the show. This is everybody's right, but I was
disheartened to find that other people who I thought were like myself had
resorted to slamming the show. Yes it has gone down in quality, yes
Jerry only sees it going one more year, but what's the point of telling
everybody how awful and unwatchable the show has become? Lets watch the
show and celebrate it for what it is: The best 1/2 hour on television. I
can see how people would be angry over the changes, but honestly, who
cares? Can't we all just get along.
I love this show, and will continue to until it goes off of the
air. Perhaps I'm too young to understand, but the way I see it, fans of
the show are rapidly turning into its enemies. You feel that your little
secret show has been raped of its soul by the masses armed with their
remote controls. I feel this to some extent too. I just can't imagine,
however, somebody deciding not to watch the show because of this reason.
I just can't...
I'm sure I will get plenty of letters both public and private
concerning this letter. I feel much better just getting this off my
chest. Thank you for listening to my ranting...

Hi Harpo,

Sit back, relax and take a deep breath. I can't even remember anyone saying "...and I'm not going to watch it any more, so there!" You're reading something into it that FOR ME isn't there -- as most people who think either/or do -- well, "if they didn't like an episode, then ipso facto, they're going to shut their eyes to it forever: all or nothing."

NOT SO good and faithful fan! You are seeing democracy in action here as people type OPINIONS.... And this is about the last vestige of people 'saying' what they think. People have stopped sending back tough steaks, don't tell off the rude cab driver, shut up when someone is making a scene who ought to be spanked, and getting so downright mediocre, it's pitiful. IMO, we're getting to be a country of "lowest common denominator" while we try to be politically correct and totally insincere so as not to rock anybody's boat. Blech! Boring!

Hardly anybody says much to a waiter who flys by saying "Everything OK here?" (who DOES NOT WANT the truth! Egadz, the waiter might have to take something back to the kitchen and face the ire of the cook! Ack. Think of that!) Because people have stopped bitching once in a while, service in this country SUCKS. Today the customer is a nuisance when years ago people realized the CUSTOMER is the reason for the JOB!

Hurrah for people who speak up and say they DON'T LIKE SOMETHING! I have an imagination that people speak up more on the East Coast than out here in the West. We're laid back and all that baloney. NOT. We just don't want anyone to think we're not cool. The heck with that, for me!

Sorta like saying, "Hey, Mom, what's in this soup? It tastes funny." Oooh, do we dare say that anymore?

Well, the Mr. or Mrs. Nice Guy stuff ALL the time has got to go.

The audience is the customer not only for the show performed but the products advertising it! We don't have to take a "'scuze me for living' attitude and sit back and swallow everything whole! <g> Indirectly we are paying for this show!

Face these facts: Suicide is not funny. Falling on top of the guys car is NOT funny. Circumcision is NOT FUNNY. FOR ME, "The Pig Man" part was too absurd to be funny, and if it concerned a mental retard, then it was NOT funny either (I got a phone call about that time). (The call wasn't funny, either!) <G>

For me, a man falling on a banana peel is not funny, but painful (old sight gag days - if you watch 'em with no sound - they are NOT funny). Buster Keaton on the edge of a tall building falling onto the hand of a big clock - what's so funny about THAT. His facial expression? The situation is not funny.

About last week's show, someone mentioned, and I agree, the TINY bit about pride in getting the parking space was funny -- I work in San Francisco where at any time there are about 10,000 cars roaming around looking for a place to park. I know how George felt! I even do the same thing myself! I could relate to that, and for me it was funny.

One episode, that's all. Mostly a bum episode for me. Big deal. Let's see what they got going this week (I would bet they already have heard these opinions about last week's rendering).

You're welcome; it's understood people must relieve stress these days. It's OK Harpo -- <pat><pat> You'll be fine. You just got excited and thought everybody was dumping the show -- for WHAT? You're right, it IS the only good thing going right now -- just ONE episode -- can't all be winners. And most of 'em are winners.

Me, too, Harpo -- me, too! I'm crossin' my fingers for our gang on that show! Hang onto your hat, Harpo, and have fun with all the mail! (Don't take this seriously, ya know, it ain't that important.)
