I was watching The Cigar Store Indian last night. The gang are in Frank and Estelles's house, and they are discussing the smell of it, dandruff etc. They also describe it as smelling like "kasha??".
What is this? I'm Australian and it means nothing to me.

I think they might be referring to Kashi which is a puffed whole grain of some kind. The Kashi also surfaces in another episode (I think) where George and Frank are in bed together in George's old room and Frank is doing a little late night dining on Kashi in bed! Kasha is made from hulled and crushed buckwheat grains, served hot, traditionally cooked with garlic and onions and bowtie pasta (prepared this was it's called 'kasha varnishkes'), it's absolutely delicious! It has sort of a nutty earthy flavor. My Nana used to make a big pot of it whenever the family got together for Jewish holidays.
