Reasoning? Seinfeld has only been massively popular since it moved to Thursdays , so for most people, an old episode that few people saw is as good as a new one. I know the legions of us who collect episodes on tape JUMPED at the chance to record The Parking Garage, The Chinese Restaurant, etc.
Given that the earlier episodes were far less formulaic, they probably don't show enough of the old ones.
