Fans debate whether Puddy is overused and annoying, with most agreeing he was better in limited appearances but has become irritating with frequent appearances.

I totally agree--Elaine's character really shines when she is at work showing off her writing ability in front of the Cary Grant-like Peterman. They seem to have a classier/wittier interaction than Elaine and Puddy and their one-note relationship. I would have to guess that the show goes in the direction of their writers' strengths--and when they lost so many of their top writers in recent years--some of our favorite characters went with them. alt showbiz gossip
Puddy in my opinion is one of the funniest characters on the show. To bad he was introduced to us too late, since the show is going off the air.
