50 greatest shows

Jerry Dingleberry Seinsmelled was on the 50 greatest TV shows show last night. Can you believe he used the bit where he says he doesn't care what's on TV, only what *else* is on. You'd think he'd come up with some new material to use on a rare network TV appearance.

I thought it interesting that Letterman scored higher than Carson, given that Letterman idolized Carson and his greatest aspiration was to succeed Johnny on the Tonight Show. The poll was obviously skewed toward a younger demographic.

They why were "I love Lucy" and "The Honeymooners" in the top 5?

I think the list had plenty of shows from all eras.

I think voters from an older generation that grew up watching the Honeymooners and I Love Lucy would have ranked those shows ahead of Seinfeld.

I believe the list was for American shows only. The countdown didn't say top 50 American shows, but it didn't say top 50 world-wide shows either. I agree with you that Python could have made the list as an import, though.

I think it's interesting to watch some shows and see how they are in contrast to the other shows of its time. I was watching some cable channel and saw a re-run of Good Times. I think at one time, with JJ and him saying "dynamite" was a turpitude, if not #1 show. I don't think I could get a room full of people to sit through an entire 30 minute show of it now, not without really good snacks on hand.

The way Ralph talks to Alice in The Honeymooners, I just don't find funny. Reminds me of how Archie would talk to Edith to a certain degree in All in the Family, another one time top-rated show. One of the many great things about Seinfeld, as observed by Julia about her Elaine character is that she could be just as much of a jerk as the guys on the show were. But I guess some people have fund memories of those shows in the time period which would explain more votes. Also, some people don't know a classic when they see it. and Seinfeld is a classic.
