Toilet-paper lady--Jamie Gertz-didn't she have AIDS?

That was Jamie Gertz? I thought she had gotten HIV, AIDS, and died. Didn't they make some tv movie about the whole deal with Molly Ringwald as Jamie?

BTW, does anyone remember a great film with Shelley Long and Jamie Gertz in which Shelley Long's brother is supposed to be a recovering cancer patient who has a terrible crush on the Jamie Gertz character. Of course, she rejects him totally. Then he lets his sister make him over and he starts dressing like a biker and wearing long hair (a wig), and calling himself "Lobo", and she falls for him, not realizing who he really is. I wish I could remember the name of this movie...

The movie that Jamie Gertz was in with Shelley Long was "Don't Tell Her It's Me". It had been made for HBO, I think. BTW, I thought that Jamie fit in great with the Seinfield crowd. She didn't just blend into the wallpaper like all of Jerry's other love interests.

NO, that tv movie wasn't about Jamie Gertz; it was about a young woman who was not a movie star or actress who also had the last name Gertz. I believe that her first name is Allie. I'm preet  I'm pretty sure she's still alive. _Josh Daniels

Sorry Dave. There was *never* a time when ONLY gay men were getting AIDS. There was a time when media coverage and the public linked AIDS exclusively with gay men. This, of course, is one of the reasons AIDS is rapidly growing among the heterosexual community....they think they're immune!

Let's try and discontinue this mis-information. Most of America already seems uneducated on the subject...let's not perpetuate false facts.

Fine. I *knew* somebody would comment on this. Of course I meant that not ONLY gay men were getting the disease. I probably should have said "the perception was that, in North America, that primarily gay men got AIDS." The point was that ALison Gertz was probably the first woman to come out and say that she had AIDS, thus ruining the common perception. Okay? Dave

she was hardly the first, but she was able to capture the public's (and the media's) attention because she was so 'safe' she could be the girl next door, white heterosexual and upper-middle class, not to mention young. she was infected when she was 16, but not diagnosed until 23 everyone's made mistakes when they were 16, so it seemed particularly tragic that a woman died when she was 26 just because of a one- night stand 10 years earlier...
