Does anyone know if the Mets and Phllies really played a doubleheader that day as was so famously described in the Keith Hernandez plot. The one website that I checked only has game scores back to 1988, I could go to the library and look at microfilms, but that would be a bit excessive, wouldn' t it?

I don't know about the exact date but my husband remembers that game between the Phillies and the Mets. We are from Philly. Hope this helps you get some sleep ;-)

Thanks to Art Vandelay,  I don't know why I didn't think of that site, I
was looking at the Stats, Inc. site that only had team stats back to
1988.   I suspected that they really didn't have a doubleheader that
day, but Newman comes in with such a dramatic "June
14,1987...Mets-Phillies doubleheader.."   that I thought I would
investigate.  Thanks again.
