I just recently saw the episode where Jerry gets an overdue slip from the library about a book he thought he returned some odd years ago. I must say that library investigator has got to be one of the funniest non reoccuring characters. I just think that the writers should find a way to incorporate in another episode. Anyone agree???

Yes, I've posted re him as my favorite "minor character." The actor, Philip Baker Hall, played the incumbent councilman who ran against Woody in the closing episodes of CHEERS. He recently got very good reviews in a movie--can't recall the title--so sadly we probably won't get to see him reprise the Bookman role.

Philip Baker Hall also gave the single greatest screen performance I have ever seen in my life--in Robert Altman's film about Richard Nixon, SECRET HONOR. He got a lot of attention for his performance in the recent film HARD EIGHT, as well. (He also has small parts as a sympathetic IRS man in SAY ANYTHING and as Nicolas Cage's father in KISS OF DEATH.) He's one of my favorite character actors, and I hope he's able to parlay his reviews for HARD EIGHT into some more high-profile roles.
I agree. Bookman is the funniest non-reoccuring character on the show. After reading posts about Seinfeld not keeping a straight face in scenes I've been watching him more closely and yes in the Bookman scene he was smiling. However, I think this was intentional and quite realistic. Who in real life would keep a straight face when encountered with a guy like him. In fact in the scene Bookman makes a comment about Seinfeld the comedian thinking the whole situation is a big joke. He is a character that unfortunately cannot be repeated.
How about this... Bookman quits his job to become a private eye and is hired by Susan's parents to find out if George really did kill their daughter. Which of the characters will break first and tell Bookman they think George is a killer?
