Flag Burning Episode

Hi, does anyone have a videotape of the episode where Kramer sets the Puerto Rican Flag on fire, that I could arrange to buy or copy??

sounds fair enough, after all that's the controversal scene, and they cut scenes out of episodes in syndication anyway...

That was a good episode though (figures, I decided not to tape that one and taped the Finale the following week...I'm such an idiot...okay, I'm not, but with that tape move I was...)

It's kind of integral for the ending. The point isn't fairness anyway, it's how much political clout can be demonstrated.

I really don't understand what the big flap was all about. I don't think the ordinary Puerto Rican cared one way or the other. Rather, I believe the so-called community leaders need an occasional issue to keep their names in the media.

In the "English Patient" some fun is made about Krammer's three Dominicans who are passed off as pseudo-Cubans, brought into the US to roll Cuban cigars. This is certainly a stereotype of Cubans and a put down of Dominicans. But it was presented as comedy, not mean spirited.

Also, at the end of the "Yada Yada" episode at Mickey's wedding, Jerry date Beth blurts out something like "...yeah, blacks and Jews, who needs 'em !" That remark out "Archie Bunkered" Archie Bunker. But it was so unexpected and outrageous that I rolled on the floor laughing.

Does anyone seriously believe that any of those remarks were meant to be racist, or that the Puerto Rican flag incident was any kind of a malicious put down? Unfortunately, we've become such a country of "victims" we've lost the ability to laugh at ourselves, and we've become overly defensive about our ethnicity. I think we're trying to change the "melting pot" concept of this county and revert back into ethnic tribalism. As much as we celebrate our heritage, we should also be able to laugh at our cultural idiosyncrasies.

I'd continue but someone else needs to borrow my soapbox.

Or, Stereotyping Chinese people via Donna Chang or the Owner of the Chinese Restaurant.

And Poppie, the Restaurant Server as Unsanitary for not washing his hands in the men's room; Zealot for causing a commotion with Elaine over abortion, and Incontinent for peeing all over Jerry's couch.

Ridiculing the Elderly via the promiscuous Goiter Lady and the bitchy Old Man with the Record Collection..

Isn't that why we love Seinfeld so much? I mean.. don't we all basically feel the same way about the little patterns and details of life that John listed here as Jerry and his friends do? I'm not so sure about that. Remember when Kramer got upset because the Post Office kept delivering him catelogs that he waged a one man war against the Post Office. The Post Master General finally had to adjust Kramer's rebellious attitude in the "smoke filled" room.

It goes way beyond Jerry's dislike of Newman. Newman stuffs non delivered mail in Jerry & Karmer's storage facility; he doesn't deliver mail in the rain; he uses the Post Office truck to return bottles for the extra deposit to a different state. In a word, Newman makes Cliff Klavan (of Cheers) look intelligent, industrious, and ept.

But there is one group he did insult that he cannot be forgiven for. He never really insulted Canadians, sure we had Kramer liking CFL football and taping our parliament on C-Span, and Elaine putting Canadian quarters in her washing machines. But I do all three of those things. That's no real insult towards us. That's truly Insulting!!! :-)
