I'm not sure about Elaine's mother, but her father is an author and was on the show once (that I've seen). Elaine convinced Jerry and George to go out with her and her father, but she never showed up, so Jerry and George were stuck with a man they found pretty scary.

I might be mistaking, but I believe Elaine did finally show up for dinner with her father. I do know that she did not show up when they were going to dine with J. Peterman.
