Thursday at 9

Look for NBC to move Frasier into the Thursday at 9pm timeslot. Although Frasier doesn't have the same quirky coolness as Seinfeld, it is in many ways a better show. Acting from the lead, plot structure and consistency are all superior to Seinfeld. Look for Frasier to get a wacky new neighbour names Cosmo...not ha ha ha.

Frasier won't move to 9 because that is the show that holds up Tuesday nights. If you move Frasier to Thursdays, Tuesdays are suddenly vunerable

I agree with this pretty much, and as far as I am concerned there isn't much on on Tuesday nights - and I LOVE television. But with the little bit there is on that night, they will more than likely leave it there.

I doubt that Frasier is going to change time slots. It is consistently in the top 20 in the ratings, and it has won the Tuesday 9pm time slot several times this season against Home Improvement (altough this may have more to do with the crap-fest that ABC's non-NYPD Blue Tuesday schedule has become and the popularity af Dateline). If anything moves from Tuesday to Thursday, it will probably be Newsradio into the post-Friends time slot. Without the Seinfeld-Friends "hammock" to boost ratings of unproven or unwatchable shows, NBC will probably want a show that already has a following in the 8:30 slot.

As for the 9:00 slot, there really aren't that many options. NBC will want a proven show in that slot, or risk losing the one night of the week that has been their cash cow for 15 years. The options:

• Move Veronica's Closet to 9:00. Put a new show at 9:30.

Veronica's Closet is the highest rated new show of the season, and it would be nice to have Kirstey Alley back in her old Cheers slot. Fraiser moved to Tuesday after only one season and became a success, but it took years (against the #1 show at the time), so a good second-season show like VC could work. But VC may not attract enough of Seinfeld's male audience, which could be a problem area. (I don't know the demographics of the two shows; this is merely a hunch)

• 3rd Rock at 9:00

This option has been discussed in the media, but I don't see it happening. NBC's Thursday line-up has always been urban (often set in NYC), fairly sophisticated and typically low-concept & character-driven. 3rd Rock, while amusing and popular, is a high-concept show that uses a different type of humor than found elsewhere on Thursdays. I don't think it would mesh well with the other shows.

• A Seinfeld spin-off

Not gonna happen.

• Move Mad About You to Thursday 9:00.

A logical choice. The show would fit in well on Thursdays, but if it continues next season (and that's a big if), 98-99 will probably be the last season.

So, what's left? None of the Monday sitcoms could anchor a night, especially Thursday. The other NBC sitcoms are too new. So here are my guesses:

8:00-3rd Rock, 8:30-Newsradio, 9:00-Friends, 9:30-VC, 10:00-ER

or, more likely,

8:00-Newsradio, 8:30- either Fired Up or Just Shoot Me, 9:00-Friends, 9:30- VC or a new show, 10:00-ER

    The show with Dabney Coleman a few years ago was also the highest rated new
show of the season, but was cancelled quickly because it was critically panned.
   The ratings are most likely due to Seinfeld's presence.
