I understand that MWC was kind of a warped offspring of Cosby.
The Cosby show had been about a happy, devoted family, in which the father was a doctor and the other dedicated and idealistic parent was a hard-working jurist.
There were certain subtle differences between these characteristics and those of the Bundys. I get the impression that they were written specifically as the antithesis of the Cosbys.
I never watched a complete Cosby episode. I did not start watching Seinfeld until it was in reruns. I started watching it because someone on a talk show said, "There never was an Aaaaah! moment in Seinfeld. They are always absolutely self-centered and totally uncaring."
That definitely sounded like the show for me!
I was not disappointed. The Seinfeld characters are actually more awful than the Bundys. Though the competition is awesome.
Seinfeld characters do real harm -- like when Al cost Steve his job and finally his sanity. Like Peg, none of them cares.
