See, the problem of making them for DVD is that once I do make them after thousands upon thousands of dollars of expense in a recorder alone not to mention the media involved. I would have to charge about a $1000.00 a set. Then everybody would bitch and no one will buy. Then if that weren't enough, someone would buy one and then copy the damn thing and pass my work off as thiers and keep the profits (I know what you are saying. I am doing the same thing. well, yes and no. I am selling the seinfeld episodes and they are not getting royalites (of which there aren't any right now) but I leave in the credits and never claim it is my work...what is my work is the 5 months of digitizing these and losing a lot of sleep becuase I don't have a professional staff to reset the encode cycle every four hours and then burning a
this is what I said. I meant of people taking my work (the encoding, the time, the toil) and burning to another disc and claiming that it was all there work. even bootleggers in taiwan leave all the credits and stuff in when they pirate microsoft items. I have a small mark on the info window in real player when it runs. What I mainy am concerned about is the packageing. I took alot of time to find (in my opinion ) some of the best items and put them together as a package. I know damn well some one will take the discs and copy them. Nothing I can do about it really nor do I really care that much about it becuase they will find that just the time it takes it repackage them will be well worth the effort.
I would be no more flattered if I saw one of my copies up for grabs on Scour. might not happen cause they are huge (broad band is coming soon..Broad band is coming soon..) but that would be cool becuase they felt mine were bettr and took the time to post them .
an analogy would be that people buy knock off paris clothes all the time but the orginals are hard to come by. I guess I am trying to make a collectible in itself for no other reason then pride. as it stands dave might be the only one who buys one. I still have a free set here for the person who replyed to my message in support. he never emailed me a message with his address.
anyhow this is really it in a nutshell. I am making an item that someday might be a collectible in itself. unofficial or not. I have a seinfeld cup here that says castle rock on the back but I can't be sure that it was given out by them as I never saw them offered.

in a side note I once figured up the cost it would take to put Seinfeld on DVD. this is by my current estimations. each DVD can hold around 2 hours of video. might be more though I don't know. anyhow..figureing that up and saying these seinfelds I have on tape take 72 hours of seinfeld watching pleasure..then that means that you could get it all on 36 discs. now I got a price qoute of DVD manufactures (disc makers..I didn't look into it, I get a magizine from disc makers as I have legitimate copies I make of my music videos I do as a hobby..all my work video and music) for 10,000 DVDat $23,900 @ $2.39 each DVD now multipy that by 36 and include packaging. it works out to $106.00 (round $2.50 up for packaging) now you know as well as in a business you got to make a profit to make your investment worth while. so you hire a firm to do a price study. add that price in say they think you can safely sell them retail for $199.00 not much of a profit becuase now you got others to pay so you figure $200.00 you have invested in it enough with the labor in it and all and the research firm and the fact that now they won't command a big demand in the syndication market. so say $200 is now your cost. so now you got to make a profit. in retail, profit is usually 80% of the actual price. so they think well $800.00 is alot (although I saw a copy of seinfeld close (yes it closed..how it got by I don't know) for $800.00 but that was on tape. lets say they see it as many will have sticker shock so the lower it to $599.99 with sales running going at $450.00. unreasonble maybe but then they slap it in a gold box and maybe thrown in a tshirt and market it to a more exclusive cliental. (now who's the crooks) not alot still buy them so they start numbering them and saying that only 10,000 wil be made (not a lie they were already made..it creates a collectible. but still they are just out of reach of most so some people buy them and then start saying they got one of the first printings made (low number and surely they can resell it on Ebay for double (create a demand and fill it)and then buy another copy and keep 50% profits. Then that perosn thinks well hell that was easy money and searchs for an angle to sell that copy on ebay for (he might not have a low number this time ) he thinks of saying un opened. people might see this as good becuase by now, they supply for them is dwindling. now this creates an artificial demand situation and people think the same thing and start to buy them and duplicate the action by the first. now the things are going for outragous prices and someone is making more money then the producers. so they have probebly run out of them so they order a second printing (you think that would not make it a collectble however they add some scenes or the bloopers or something, raise the price and put it in a different box) and start over. Now my idea doesn't seem so crazy. don't get me wrong, if they were offered I would most likely winch at the cost but buy them. (now if everybody had the foresight to see that they will come down in price once demand for them is dwindled they could get them for next to nothing). you ever look in the paper and see people reselling thier "hot toy" of the christmas season for 5 to 10 times the price...people pay it too cause it makes them a hero to thier kids..never mind the kid will most likely not play with it, even lose it five months from christmas. and let me tell you people do it all the time in fact I know a man whose uncle lived off of that.
