Producer leaving show

NEW YORK, Dec 11 (Reuters) - The following story appeared in Thursday's Daily Variety:

"Seinfeld" supervising producer David Mandel has inked a three-year $9 million overall deal with Walt Disney TV. He will leave "Seinfeld" at the end of this season, and his deal to create, write and produce new projects for Disney begins in June. Jon B.

Why would the producer want to work for Disney, instead of Seinfeld ?

Maybe he feels that it is time for him to move on creativity wise. He can create and write new shows and I suppose that after a number of years with one show this might appeal to him. I would doubt that he is going to make more money, though. I am sure that SEINFELD pays quite well and Disney is a bit notorious for their cutting corners. Jennifer

If you've been following the ratings, NBC has been getting hammered on many fronts. Given that this is probably the last year for the show, it makes sense to jump to available work before everyone elses blocks the exit. And Disney is starting a new cable channel, and such opportunities to get in on the ground floor of a new programming project are very rare.

This is an excellent possibility. Also, the possibility that his creativity may have the vast, enormous resources of Disney at his beck and call, makes for an irresistible lure. We will have to wait and see what he accomplishes...

Although SEINFELD pays quite well, it is quite possible that Disney has the resources to provide all of his sycophants (and buddies) nice cushy jobs.
