June 14th...1987!

Most of you will probably remember Newman yelling out "June 14th... 1987!" during "The Boyfriend" episode when he and Kramer recall the day that Keith Hernandez spit on them after he cost the Mets a ball game with a "crucial error" against the Phillies. I always figured this part of the script was based on an actual event in Hernandez career. By chance the other day I was flipping through the channels on my TV when I saw an old baseball game on Classic Sports. It was a Phillies game from June 14th, 1987!!! I thought maybe someone who was a "Seinfeld" fan at Classic Sports programmed the game for a second. Then I saw that the reason the game was on was because that day Mike Schmidt hit three home runs (one for his 2,000th career hit) that day. And the game was against the Montreal Expos. Oh well. But still, seeing the Phillies on June 14th, 1987, I almost expected to see Newman and Kramer spilling beer on Roger McDowell out behind the bullpen.
