NBC: Nothing But Cigars????

Well, after watching NBC's Thursday night line-up, I'm convinced that we won't have to wait until their Saturday "thrill-ogy" night to be given a conspiracy theory to talk about. Point in case:

On Friends, Monica lights up a strogie.

On Seinfeld, Elaine lights up a stogie.

On Suddenly Susan, Susan lights up a stogie.

Same network, same night, three shows, three cigar-smoking women. You do the math.

As for those who might blast a hole in my theory by noting the decided lack of cigars in The Single Guy, you might note that they were attempting to smuggle in illegal *Cuban* bras, an obvious allusion to cigars.

I think this reflects the current trend among "yuppies" (do they still exist?). I saw a report on the topic on some eveing news show a couple of weeks ago. I, myself, don't smoke and I don't think that a woman who smokes is very attractive. So to see these beautiful women smoking was a major let down. But that's just my opinion.

There is definitely a trend towards cigars -- but it's not limited to women. In Dallas, we have bars opening up with the word cigars in the name. Other restaurants are advertising on the radio that they have private cigar rooms. Personally, I don't understand this trend. Nobody spots a crafty, well-financed ad campaign?? Substitute a stack of bills for every cigar you see & it will make sense. Just another instance of money talking.

Just checking this out to see if it works? Anyway, whats wrong with women smoking cigars?? We should be allowed to look just as goofy (or sexy) smoking them as the boys club does.

Spoiling for a little tiff are we? Nobody said ANYTHING was WRONG with women smoking cigars. Just that when three shows use it in their season openers, it is beyond random probability.

And what is this "just as goofy (or sexy)" business? Are you one of the writers for Suddenly Susan? And if so, what are you going to do next spring? Write for Tammy Fay Bakker maybe? Not that there is anything wrong with that.
