Michael Richards vs Jim Carrey

I have to say I think Michael Richards is a much better actor then Jim Carrey,,,,,what do you think?

I like them both and I honestly don't see the point in comparing two actors.

Michael Richards hasn't done much besides making a couple of flicks. He was in Airheads, the Coneheads, and a couple of other films. Basically he was playing the role of Kramer Lite. Nothing too spectacular. It will be interesting to see what projects he will do in the future.

Jim Carrey is the best actor of our generation. Comparing Jim Carrey to Michael Richards is like comparing Disney's "The Lion King" to Disney's "Meet the Deedles". Michael Richards is very funny but he's really only capable of one role (Kramer or Kramer-like characters).

Not disputing the fact that Jim Carrey is a great actor, but his comedy has become old & uninteresting. For example, I found Ace Ventura 2: When Nature Calls simply offensive. It was not funny nor did it keep me interested. Anyways, Michael Richards has proven he's a superb actor in no matter what part he plays.

I'll agree about Ace Ventura and The Cable Guy but "The Truman Show ", I tought was something else. My problem is that I haven't seen M. Richards in anything else than Seinfeld.

For a view of Jim Carrey's dramatic work, one has to find a tape of a TV movie in which he played a supporting role called "Doing Time On Maple Drive" (or something like that). He made it when In Living Color was in its first or second season. I remember he got good reviews for his performance.

Michael Richards' dramatic talents can be seen in a recent movie called "Unstrung Heroes."

His comedy is OLD, outdated, irritating, etc. His only worthwhile film is Liar Liar, as he did portray a "normal" character, without using that irratating, offensive comedy that most people are beginning to hate. Anyways, as for Michael richards, he has proven himself to be a fine actor, showing us he can play any role assigned to him no matter whether is comedy, drama, etc.

But "Liar Liar" was a children's movie. Along the lines of those Disney-type flicks where a father and son change bodies or a man inhabits a dog or some other such nonsense. "The Cable Guy" was, ostensibly, an adult movie and shouldn't have been held to the same "fluff" standard. I expected more from "The Cable Guy" and was disappointed, while "Liar Liar" was stupid but entertaining.

I've heard/read good things about "The Truman Show", but I haven't seen it. Maybe it'll change my mind about Carrey.

Until then, I still say he should stick to the silly physical comedy
that got him to the top in the first place and leave the serious stuff
to real dramatic actors.

I did see this one and it did impress me. I do not care for his comedic style but I thought this was a fascinating movie and that he was very good in it. If you get a chance, see it and let us know what you think. cc

If you see The Truman show watch for all the images of Christ in the movie - Jim's part is that of Christ - I could do a great list as there are so many.

Anyone want to name some more? - brought up by a mother who did not conceive him - loved by the world - walked on water - position of lying on the boat - rose to heaven - his 'producer' was...(check out the name) - etc... can you add some more...

Jim was big in his major hit (ace venture), but after that quality has droped down. This is, i think, because he tried to be funny in his serious role. like truman which was a big dissappointment for me as a jim's fan. Michael was acting so good in his kramer role that made audions feel like it was his nature, like his real life. I think what makes a comadien funny is when he/she acts not to be funny but to make auidions feel like the role he /she is playing is part of his real life..I hope you understand what i am taling about.MY english is not very good. Let me give another example of my point, If you take Harrison Ford, he is just a gentleman, a leader or a quite person with no sound of advanture. This is the role he acts at the almost every movie he has roled in, but when movie goes on, there is always advanture, fight, war for his role Jay...

First of all, there will not be an Ace Ventura 3 because Jim Carrey has stated that he will only do one sequel in his lifetime because he feels they are just money-making machines. Which is too bad, because I was really looking forward to The Mask II (That's the sequel that should have been made, not Ace Ventura). Secondly, I thought The Cable Guy was very entertaining. And your problem is you're missing the whole point of the movie, it wasn't intended to be "serious". It was a comedic horror film about a demented cable man. Just because his performance wasn't over-the-top like in all his previous films doesn't mean you're supposed to look upon it as a drama. Even if Carrey was placed in a drama (the closest thing to that would be The Truman Show) we would still find humor in it at some point in the movie because Carrey is not a one-note actor. There has to be at least one point in all his movies where you can have a chance to laugh. And that's what I appreciate about him.

Do we know what Kramer is capable of? I have not seen him in other roles. I have not seen all of Carey's work. I think I prefer Richards as Kramer because there's a subtlety there that appeals to me more than my impression of Carey (based on NOT having seen all of this films.) Carey may be more versatile, but we dont know what else Richards will do. In any case, versatility isn't everything. Was Bogie versatile? Yet he was great. If Richards's career has nothing as good as Kramer, I will still sit in awe of what he did with this role.

Actually, Michael Richards did his biggest role in Problem child playing the escaped convict...

     Comparing these two great comic actors today is like saying who was the
best between Bob Hope and Jack Benny of yesteryear.  I love Michael and Jim and
each is uniquely gifted.  I don't think I will ever again be more comically
entertained by another actor on tv as much as I have been with Michael's
Kramer. He wouldn't have to perform again, and will be remembered forever in
the same category as Lucille Ball.
   Jim keeps getting better as a movie comic actor etched with dramatic
overtones.  Because he is still so young, he has an excellent chance of
reaching Robin William's stature.  Truman Show proved that.  I just wish
Michael was younger and had the opportunities Jim is having.  I think we might
have  seen a richer movie index in his portfolio. Let's hope they use him well
in the future.

Apples and oranges. Carrey is a LOT more like a writer/performer, more in the Robin Williams mold, and they're more directly comparable.
