Are You Being Served is a bizarre British comedy often shown on PBS in the States late at night.
It's been running for years. It started out in a department store and after about 10 years and running out of plots they moved it to a bed and breakfast type place.
It's at the opposite end of Monty Python. It's silly in the sense that Three's Company was silly, but since it's British, it's much funnier.

The PBS station in my region has 2 hrs. of British comedy on Saturday nights. Fawlty Towers used to be included but was recently replaced by something else (oh, the sacrilege). As for The Young Ones, I don't think there's much of a chance of PBS airing a program which used to be carried by MTV. From what I recall, there weren't that many episodes anyway (but it was great). Just as a matter of interest, most of us English-folk don't care very much for you Yanks calling us Brits. I don't really give a damn, but some take offense to it.

BTW: I must agree with the original poster that "Are You Being Served" is a wonderful show. But I'm wondering how it was written into the script when they moved to a B&B. Did the actor playing Mr. Grace die?

Yes that was explained to me in England. An Englishman is from the Southern part of English Isle... British is anyone who is a citizen from the entire UK (Scotland, Wales, N. Ireland, Hong Kong, etc.). After the explanation, the English lady had to add condescendingly, "By the way, I love your accent!!!".
