lol....apparently. I did, indeed, get the Roast Beef combo.

I don't care much for their roast beef, although the Arby-Q bar-b-cue sandwich is tasty and you just can't get a jamocha shake anywhere else. :)

I never knew that! Sure, it makes sense now, but I always assumed "Arby's" referred to someone's name, like "Wendy's".

This is the second time this has happened: for years I thought that when you "teepee" someone's house, the name referred to making the house look like a Native American "teepee", rather than referring to the use of TP (toilet paper).

Man, I wonder how many other terms I've misunderstood? :-)

Here's one more (not Seinfeld-related):

"Jeep" actually comes from the abbreviation given to it during WWII. It was a 'general purpose' vehicle, or 'G.P.' -- so they called it a "jeep" for short.

Actually, Arby's (RB's) refers not to Roast Beef, but to the Raffell Brothers who founded the restaurant chain.

Arby's isn't exactly five-star fare, but it's not as bad as all that. Their barbecued roast beef sandwich is very tasty and they make a fabulous coffee flavored milkshake.

I missed the original post, are you saying that when Frasier and Niles talk about gourmet food they're making it up? What about wine and spirits? They're always going off on this dish from this exclusive restaurant or that wine from someone's private collection. I never have a clue, but it would be interesting if someone 'in the biz' can pick out mistakes.

I disagree, at least as far as Puddy's concerned. Is it in his character to frequent a "bad" restaurant? No, he strikes me as an uncomplicated guy with tastes to match. He gets his hands dirty at work (and even after being promoted, still objects to the use of the phrase 'grease monkey'), he likes watching hockey and playing softball. This 'average Joe' likes a fast food* roast beef sandwich as an alternative to a fast food burger, thus "Arby's Night"

And I'm starting to take your characterization of their food as an indictment of my palate. Watch your step, Mike. :)

Well, that is a tough area to break into if you don't already have some sort of foothold established.

Sure they do. They're alwys going on about these fabulous meals full of stuff I've never heard of and which wine they had with it and so on. One of the funniest Frasier episodes ever was when their dad took the Crane boys to a normal family steakhouse and they acted like such snobs, they embarrassed Marty right out of the restaurant. They looked down their noses at a sirloin adn a baked potato. Snobbery of the highest order, if'n you ask me. :)

Bouilliabaise is a famous seafood stew from the south of France, especially Marseilles.
