It's not (quite) a show about "nothing."

Thought I'd throw in my 2 cents as far as Seinfeld being a show about "nothing."

Not to try to make this too profound, but I do think there is one theme that comes through all the humor about "nothing." And that is simply about friendship.

Look at Kramer. A total nut case.....but what a friend! Jerry gets a bad cantaloupe....he takes it back to the store. George's mother needs a ride back from her eye surgery...and not only does Kramer do it, but he is incredibly gracious to George's mother.

Whatever travails the characters go through, it seems that so long as they have each other for support it can all be dealt with.

At one time the show was like Seinfeld's stand-up routine, "did you ever notice this... did you ever notice that." The earlier episodes are so sucessful because they concentrated on over-analyzing minute details of life from an entirely Seinfeldian perspective.

Over the past three seasons the show has degenerated into one contrived (although unusual) sit-com formula after another; it is becoming more difficult each episode to find a joke or a conversation that could have been in an early season script.

Jerry was right two seasons ago when he wanted to leave the show because it was becoming far too repetative. It's still entertaining, but it is not nearly the same quality as it was early on.

Who knows what this show will deteriorate into when Larry David leaves at the end of the season.
