New season...what's happened?

Greetings...

"Seinfeld" begins another season. Some of MHOs:

• The first half of the premiere was a let down. The second half approached the excellence of last season.

• The 09/16/92 episode had moments, but again only approached the excellence of last season.

Possible reasons for such a let down (again IMHO):

   -The characters seem very confrontational.  The funniest scenes are those
    that focus on the "nothingness" theme (i.e. Jerry imitating sirens, George
    concerning himself with tucking and tipping the chambermaid, Kramer flail-
    ing with a group of wannabes at casting sessions).  I find that
    periods between such humor are growing longer and longer, with a ton
    of NYC bickering in between.
   -The absence of Elaine...a token appearance with her shrink wasn't enough.
   -The emergence of the weight-challenged (can't remember his name) character
    as a main character.  This guy was great as a side show, but he's not
    funny for more than a few minutes here and there.  He is, without a
    doubt, the most confrontational character of all.
   -The actors are trying too hard.  The writers are trying too hard.  Last
    season's episodes were so natural.  The big-time has the cast and writers
    thinking too much (methinks :-)
   -Average type casting.  The Library Detective did a great job last season.
    The LA strangler detectives were average at best...they were trying too
    hard.  And Joe DaVilla (sp?) was psycho in a not so funny way.

On the confrontational issue: The show IS about NYC characters, and I'm well aware that part of what makes NYC so worthy of the many stories NYCers tell is the element of confrontation. I can clarify by saying that it's bickering that I don't care for...last season when George had the parking confrontation, it was riotous. This season, when Jerry and George bicker in various less-than-rememberable situations, it's boring.

For those of you who are Far Side fans, I think Seinfeld is hitting the same unknown wall that Gary Larson has somehow run into. All of a sudden, what was funny without even trying must now be labored over.

how can you analyze and worry about a TV SHOW???? this guy wrote about 50 lines of analysis!!! all it is is a TV show. if you aren't liking it, then quit watching it for a while. I guess the reason I like Seinfeld is because i don't treat it like it's the best thing since the wheel. i like the humor but my whole life's meaning doesn't depend on whether or not a particular episode was funny or not. come on people.

Oh, and give some thought to a writing class or two...there are certain guidelines for written English that you missed along your way. Maybe if you quit reading this newsgroup, you can find some time in what I'm sure is a busy schedule.
