No, it wasn't from the first episode...the mooching aspect of Kramer was developed later on. My question is though, "When was that scene filmed?" Jerry appears somewhat younger...but not 11 years younger. My guess is that they shot it at some point when the apartment set was clear (such as the beginning of a season, or when it was rebuilt after a fire a few years back) and held it for some unknown future use.

You guys should bone up on how sitcoms are shot. These scenes were shot specifically for this episode and were never intended for anything else. It's not like Seinfeld is a documentary and they found some great footage from 13 years ago and said "hey this would look great at the end of tonight's episode!" It's not impossible that they shot it at the beginning of this season since they probably had this episode planned already, but there is no reason to believe this. TV crews get paid good money to make the shows in a timely and professional manner, and that includes stripping away the set dressing for a scene, then building it back up again. That's it. It's all an illusion.

Thats right....these scenes were shot for this episode.All the things that are said below are true and if you watch an old Seinfeld, Kramer looks young, in The Betrayal at the end, you can tell its Kramer now. However, they did a decent job in making him look younger. Jon B.
Good question! I wondered the same thing about that flashback scene where Elaine dances in the street for the "Little Kicks" episode.
Of course these are all shot specifically for the episodes they aired in. It's not hard for a hughly paid hollywood hair-and-makeup person to slightly adjust Jerry's decidedly non-descript hair to match an earlier style.
Plus, didn't Jerry live in a completely different apartment in the pilot anyway? They changed sets when the first real season started.
It was new footage. I don't think Kramer cut his hair, I think he must have had taken a shower using a "low-flow" showerhead.
"Low-flow"? I don't like the sound of that.
That was a newly shot scene. There was nothing like that in the first episode and, in fact, Kramer had a whole different personality and was a lot more spacey in the real first episode...
