Thank goodness the writer's of Seinfeld decided not to pick up "Jerry."
In an otherwise outstanding season of hilarity (The Contest, The Outing, The Pick, The Airport, The Junior Mints), the pilot story line was not funny, and this episode was the least funny of all.
Time to get back to the basics of poking fun at everyday life (i.e. a show about nothing). And if they run out of material, they should call it quits (which will happen within 2 years anyway because Jerry wants to get back to the nightclubs).
The real problem with the season-ending episode was the laugh track. The person in charge of it was totally inept, ruining much of the funny stuff in the episode with inappropriate and ill-timed "laughter". The same thing happened in the California episode.
Hmm... Everyone I was watching with found the canned laughter quite amusing. The laugh-track was so overdone in "Jerry" (as it is in too many sitcoms) that we were all laughing at it instead of the jokes. It was definitely intentional, not the result of an inept person. Same thing applies to the corney beginning of "Jerry".
I agree completely. I might even go so far as to say that last night's episode sucked the big wazoo. Aside from Kramer's plumbing problems, there were very few laughs to be had. FWIW, I thought the Cheers finale was lame as well.

One of the most hilarious plots in this episode is how the NBC president (Russell) is obssesed with Elaine. He even goes and joins the Green peace. Now that was funny.
Boy, running away to save whales is sure the trendy way to bump off a character these days. I was half expecting Russell to bump into Mike Monroe, late of Cicely, Alaska.
Don't you think that this was intentional? A play on another sitcom device and perhaps a backhanded comment on the vacuous writers device used?

Did anyone else notice that the guy who played Kramer on "Jerry" is also in that Apple ad (which was shown during the Cheers Finale) for the powerbook? He is on of the two guys in the diner trying to figure out what they put in the autoexec.bat of their DOS laptop. Maybe I'm just seeing things. I will add that, while I was entertained by the Seinfeld finale, it was kind of a letdown. Especially the aforementioned Kramer. They tried to make him (IMHO) kind of a "dangerous/nutty" guy, but I think he fell flat in this role. Crazy Joe DiVola on the other hand...

Did anyone notice that Newman wasn't watching any baseball game but he was watching the Yankees. I heard the announcer mention Mattingly's name. This must be to prove that Newman is now a Yankee fan after being spit on by a Met. Or maybe it is because the Mets are so bad this year. But I suspect that the show was taped before the Mets were really on the skids.
Hmm...very bad night on NBC IMHO. I really liked bits from Seinfeld's finale, but there was too much negativity.

Weird: The Kramer double was great in the auditions...perfect mimic! Then he plays the character all wrong...(as George tries to correct...!)
