Puddy character

Wasn't Puddy originally introduced to the series as a mechanic who was using Jerry's "move?" And in that episode, his character was not as simple and monotone. Am I off base with this assumption?

Yes, that indeed was Puddy making his Seinfeld debut. And yes there was this slight monotone personality there. But they have made him more "slower" through the years. Mind you he did say "Yeah That's right" in that ep.

Yep....and evidently Puddy used the move with more pronounced effect on Elaine as well (if Elaine's "fake" comment in "The Mangos" was accurate).

     Mmmm, he was always an odd combination of the monotone with an occasional
off-the-wall trait, comment or zinger. IMHO the character was pretty consistent
in tone from the time he was introduced, although we learned a lot more about
him later (from his face-painting hockey fan side to his oddball fundamentalist
side).
     Puddy always struck me as a character that wasn't so much dense, as he was
self-centered and oblivious to others. And as time went on, you got the
distinct impression that his seeming cluelessness toward others was actually a
very deliberate choice on his part.

I believe Putty was first introduced during the first part of the two-episodes with the Kennedy golf clubs and Karma & Newsman with the recycling. He was just "the mechanic" then, and freaked and stole Jerry's car. In the first part, Elaine met Putty, and showed no signs of a relationship at that time, indicating that this episode was earlier in the sequence. This is the earliest I remember seeing Putty. disagree at your own risk...

Puddy was not the mechanic that took Jerry`s car. That was a different mechanic, Tony, played by Brad Garret. Puddy stole Jerry`s move, never his car.

Isn't stealing the move worst, I mean you can get a car anywhere, but a good move is hard to find...

This may be risky but I disagree ! The mechanic who stole Jerry's car (with the JFK golf clubs) is Brad Garrett the same actor who plays Ray Romano's brother in "Everyone Loves Raymond." His only appearance on Seinfeld was in the two part episode "The Bottle Deposit." Patrick Warburton is the actor who had the recurring role of David Putty.
