Nothing!!

This post is really about Seinfeld so please read.

I was watching Murphy Brown last night, and actually found this episode very funny. After about ten minutes, I finally figured out why: It was about nothing! It appears that the Seinfeld plot? is making its way into other sitcoms. The show was about all the characters getting some things at a grocery store. Each character had experiences with others at the store. Sound familiar to anyone? Has the Seinfeld plot? appeared in any other shows?

Another Seinfeld tie-in: The nun from last night's Murphy Brown was played by the same actress that played the woman that George convinced to get a nose job (last season). This episode contained one of my all-time favorite Kramer lines: "You got butchered". I couldn't stop laughing when I realized it was the same person.

You know, it's not like Seinfeld was actually the first to have the majority of its plots be about nothing. Ever see the Cosby Show, for instance? Most of its episodes were little slice-of-life vignettes, effectively about nothing.

Seinfeld just likes to make good use of the comedy value of saying his show's about nothing. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

(Although I'll admit that doing nothing *on location* (in a parking garage, a chinese restaurant, an airport) is more uniquely Seinfeldesqe. )

Ossie & Harriet was ALWAYS about nothing. Plus Ossie NEVER went to work. Generally he was trying to go golfing|fishing|shopping and hardly ever made it out the proverbial door...

I don't watch Murphy Brown regularly, but I remember another episode where the four main characters spent the whole episode together in a car trying to get to work. The show ended when they got to the parking garage. It didn't have much of a plot but it was clever. . . . .
