if Kramer was in jail for a year, wouldn't he most likely lose his apartment if he could not pay rent? Jerry would have been safe since his character was loaded with dough but wouldn't kramer be in a new place away from jerry. That might play out interesting how Kramer adjusts to new neighbors

I was of the understanding that at the beggining of the series, Paul Buchman gave Kramer the apartment and Kramer pays no rent. This is one reason why he gets by like he does.
