Has anybody wondered (as I have) why Jerry lives at 129 West 81st, but the thingy ( very technical term, don't have a clue what they are called - maybe called an awning?) with the building number is 757? (or is that 737).

Because Jerry did actually live at 129 W 81. The exterior shot of the building on the show is a building in Los Angeles. The L.A. building was probably picked because it looked extremely similar to a upper-west side New York building.
