Death in family fares

Hi!

Concerning such fares, does anyone know if they exist? If so, do you really need to show a copy of the death certificate for proof? A bit macabre...but great material for comedy.

Anyone notice that picture of George next to the coffin? In particular his smile? Only George would smile while standing next to a casket.

Yes, fares like this exist. And Northwest (for one) does require that you give them a copy of the death certificate. The way these things work:

	You buy your ticket(s) (and yes, you may take a companion) at
	full price, then after you get proof of  death (aka, death
	certificate) you mail it back to the airline.  Northwest then
	mails you back vouchers" worth half of the price you paid on your
	next flight.

Not exactly cash back, but at least they give you something.

somebody asked if "death in family fares" were for real. I found out last month, yes they are. :-(

Flying to California from Texas (short notice), was $1000 (yes, one thousand) but due to death in the family the price was knocked down to $770.

Needed to supply the name of the person that died, funeral home (name & phone number), hospital, & attending doctors name (and phone number).

This was for american airlines, other airlines may require diffrent information.
