Was "Jerry" funny?

OK, here's a question to spark discussion. I missed some of the recent posts, so this might have been covered, but here goes:

Was the pilot that Jerry and George wrote actually funny, or was it a poor imitation of "Seinfeld" itself? Throughout most of the show (and the season) I would have thought the latter. Jerry and George never seem to be getting any work done on it, and that butler idea seemed dumb.

But when they showed actual clips from the show, it seemed kinda funny, especially when Kramer asked Jerry if he could send the butler over to his place when Jerry was done with him.

So what do think? Post or e-mail me directly, because I might not be checking the net regualrly.

On another note, I was disappointed with the final "Cheers" too, because it wasn't that funny, and it got mushy at the end when everyone sat around the bar trying to figure out why they were such good friends. What I loved about "Cheers" (and "Seinfeld" too) is that they never spent much time figuring out what made the characters tick. They left it up to you.

I think the best thing to compare it to is the last episode with Shelly Long six years ago. That was the perfect example of how to get serious without getting mushy. Well, that's enough for now.

I guess I'm one of the few folk's that rolled laughing for most of the hour. The part I thought was least funny was Kramer's bowel thang. The segments that really leave reality behind don't do anything for me (ie. Kramer's bowels and the BO episode) The fact that they copied scripts word for word from origional episodes for the Jerry pilot was genious IMO. I thought the characters they picked for 'Jerry' were perfect (would you have wanted them to be better than the actual cast?). I loved Jerry's reactions to the woman picked to play Elaine. During the scene where she said she was breaking up with him; his responce was hillarious. He gives her a look like 'what part of the galaxy did you pop in from?'.The raisin thing with George was classic George. He picks the strangest things to get hung up on.

One thing I noticed that George incorporated into the show... he interupted the shooting of the pilot to tell his character to emphisize a different word in delivering one of his lines (of course this pissed everyone off). The thing about this is, on an interview w/ Terry Gross (public radio's 'Fresh Air'), Jason Alexander said Jerry is always doing just that, and it invariably makes the delivery funnier. Doesn't it figure that George tries it and the crew wants to hang him.
