Elaine's appeal

OK, please no flames here...this is an honest question to you guys out there who love Elaine. What's the appeal? She's whine-y, pretty obnoxious and would you really want a woman who seemed to spend all her free time, seemingly, with her ex-boyfriend?! OK, she's pretty but she's not remarkable. What is it? The fact that she works for a publishing co. and obviously has good grammatical skills?!

What is Elaine's appeal?

For me her saving grace is that she is "one of the guys"/a pal as compared to the Oprah watching, mother of 2.3 gifted children, "shopping is my life" females that, by my experience/witness, are the more prevalent.

Counting my wife, I can think of one female that I consider to be a real pal. If had to chose a female candidate from TV land as my new pal, it would have to be Elaine; who else is there??????

Elaine's appeal to the masses? Who knows? I'll wait and read the replies!

My husband reports that Elaine looks vulnerable, makes adorable faces and expressions, seems sincere, is cute looking and not a bimbo - a portrayal of a woman with some intelligence about her is refreshing. Don't tell me you'd turn down a chance to spend an evening with her yourself! <G>

Elaine is ... just cool.

Although Elaine does spend some time with Jerry and CO. I wouldn't say she spends all her free time with them at, not even most. She frequently has dates and is going out with her female friends.

Have to disagree with you there, I think that Elaine is QUITE remarkable indeed. She is one of the most beautiful women on TV. Hey she has to be gorgeous she does the Nice N' Easy commercials doesn't she?

Not quite, no. She is open and honest about everything with her friends. She doesn't hold anything back and isn't afraid to talk about any subject at all. The fact that she openly talks about all her problems including the ones that would usually be socially taboo is a real turn on. In closing I would just like to say :

Dave, I have to agree with you there. In fact I'd stick my neck out <ouch!> and say that that's precisely where her appeal as a character lies: beautiful, yet verrrrry neurotic. Clumsy, yet sexy. Smart, yet...

She's got the same appeal that Molly Dodd had, which is as a very pleasant, neurotic, gorgeous, intelligent woman. But she's whackier. The Molly Dodd character was a bit too reserved.

Elaine is a lot more fun. Molly went and got serious on us. Elaine would NEVER get pregnant. Or if she did, she'd handle it the same way she handles all her other relationships with bothersome phenomena.

Since this is my first post to this particular newsgroup, please don't be offended by anything that I say.

Anyway, I thought it was rather curious to see the guys reactions to Elaine. However, I didn't see any posts by women about Elaine (except the first one asking why guys liked her). Granted I only read the last 100 or so articles and may have missed some. Personally, I can see why any guy would like Elaine. She's the type of female character on tv that I can relate to. She is one of the most bizarre and ecentric women on tv. She has a great sense of humor, is beautiful and has great fashion sense. That's one thing that most people didn't comment on. I think that the way that they dress Elaine on the show is perfect. But I think that the thing that I most like about Lanie is that she is a very sincere and honest character, not too many characters seem to have the sense of loyalty that this cast does.

And whay about her going out with the mimbo? I think that it fits in perfect with the rest of the men that she has dated. Elaine may be sincere, but she is VERY vain. It's not that big of a shock that she would date just because he is good looking, and I think that is why Tony dated her. I don't think that he would want to go out with a woman who is as rugged as he is. He seems like he would go out with a beautiful woman who would pamper him, not that there's anything wrong with that.

I think that Jane recognized Kramer in the restaurant because she seemed to recognize his voice when he was in Jerry's apartment and they were going to split a cab.

Anyway, thanks for hearing my ramblings....

I think people like Elaine for much the same reason they like Jerry. She is funny, intelligent, and has many of the faults that people see in their own selves. The fact that she hangs out with not just her own boyfriend but two other guys as well shows that she's just one of the guys. After all, how many of Jerry's girlfriends would have had a conversation with him about their negative experience with the uncircumcised (or is that "moyel-ly challenged"?). And how many of them would have entered the contest? Plus, when she comes up with a great line, or is proven to be right about something, she has this really great "I'm so proud of myself" look. (For example, in the Sidra/implants episode, when Jerry says, "I've touched your breasts," and Elaine replies, "Oh, yeah, I forgot.") Despite the fact that Jerry's girlfriend-of-the-week is usually more physically attractive than Elaine, I'd take Elaine over the others any day.

Actually, a lot of respectable dictionaries also include "meow" and "woof".

The purpose of words is to communicate, not to have rules. If a word is recognized enough to show up in ANY credible dictionairy, then consider it fair for usage. Or, better yet, if the word communicated something to you, that should be good enough.

Okay. First of all, it's Suzie Plakson, with a "k". Second of all, the first poster was right. It's K'Eylar, not K'Eyless. You might be thinking of K'ahless, the Klingon who appeared this season as a sort of Messiah. A bigger observation.
