By the way, is Monk's the name of the restaurant that the four frequent? Ever notice that they seem to eat out a lot? Breakfast, lunch, dinner. No one ever hosts dinner for the four of them at their apartment. Of course, Kramer always "borrows" food from Jerry.
Eating out in NYC, especially at coffee shops, is not necessarily as expensive as you think, and because of the competition, prices for some things are considerably less. Although it's been 15 years since I regularly hung out there, I recall one place in the village that featured a 99 cent breakfast of eggs, toast, hash browns and coffee. At the time, that would have been at least twice the price in most other towns. Lots of people just never cook in NY because of the abundance of inexpensive restaurants that are available.
