Why would they be good?

	I have been reading the recent mail here, and although I think the latest
season's episode have been very funny, allow me to give a theory of why
Seinfeld is so "lame".
	Imagine this. You started a television show about 7 years ago which wasn't
very good at first. After a while, the show picked up pace and became
popular, actually very popular, in fact the most-watched show on
television. Now you're 7 years in to the show. It's been a lot of hard
work, but over the years you have been very successful and made quite a bit
of money- in the millions. Where do you think you're motivation would be if
you had the choice between working day and night 7 nights a week on a
stupid TELEVISION show, or having a relaxing life in the middle of L.A.,
knowing you never have to worry about money again? I'm afraid what I'm
trying to say is that the show Seinfeld has been changed by money, and that
the excitement and motivation of making it by the creators has been taken
away.
	Another theory is this:
	After using a new plot almost every single week for 7 seasons of being on
the air, do ya' think coming up with original story ideas for four selfish
New Yorkers would be easy?
	Last theory:
	Could it be some of us out there in T.V. Land have gotten just a little
tired of a television show about nothing?

If you actually took the time to read all the stuff above, I think you get my drift of why Seinfeld is claimed to be sinking and sinking fast.

The bottom line is this: THESE WRITERS' AND PRODUCERS' JOBS ARE TO PRODUCE A TOP QUALITY SITCOM. No excuses! If they can't do it - if they haven't got the stomach for it, then they ought to let it out now and end the show. Unfortunately, a group of young, brash, arrogant writers have taken over the show and their sloopy system isn't working. There is no discipline or structure anymore now that Larry David is gone. There is no one taking control and demanding excellence. In the end, I must come to the conclusion that Seinfeld is being produced and run by complete UNPROFESSIONALS.

I know what you mean about having things develop--I thought the same thing about things last year like selling the pilot or having George try to guide some teenager's life. It looks like they might be trying that this year with Elaine and Puddy, but that's obviously not working. I think the first few episodes were as good as they are today.

Then why do they continue to do it if they don't need money. I'll let you in on a secret, no matter how much money one has, it isn't enough. Bill Gates has $40 billion dollars. No sane person can spend that much money in one lifetime, but he continues to work. Also partly because he probably enjoys his job. I'd say not having to worry about money means they are more interested in having fun and writing great comedy.

Plus, the writers writing the comedy aren't millionaires like the actors, with the exception of Seinfeld when he contributes to the writing.

Writing a good sitcom is never *easy*, so I think they've always been up to the challenge. Plus, they've always got fresh riters coming on every now and then I'm sure, so they'll come up with new ideas.

Some maybe, but not most.

Who's claiming it's sinking? Ratings are all time highs, still the most popular sitcom in america, and I still find it funny & entertaining.

Entertainment Weekly is claiming it's sinking. And many of the all-time dedicated fans of the show can see that it is sinking. Anyone with any kind of writing or scholorary backround knows the show has it's faults. It's the talk of the town, Matt. People aren't happy with the show. But many people are still dedicated to it and will continue to watch it.

I have enjoyed most of the episodes this year--not as much as previous years, but there has been some good work--but "The Junk Mail" was execrable. It's hard to believe that the man who wrote "The Soup Nazi" wrote this piece of dreck!
