OCD

I am curious about OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder) on Seinfeld. The character Jerry seems to have it but it has become prevalent in other characters, too. EXAMPLES: 1) When Jerry drops his girlfriend's toothbrush into the toilet, he cannot kiss her. When she drops something of his into the toilet, he throws out everything in his apartment. 2) Jerry throws out a belt because it briefly touched the side of a urinal 3) He broke up with a girlfriend who went out with Newman. 4) He cannot eat when Poppy doesn't wash his hands after going to the bathroom. 5) HE threw out a spatula that Kramer had used. On Thursday's episode, Elaine's coworker and boyfriend were "germaphobics."

Does anybody know why OCD symptoms are commonly made fun of on the show? Does Jerry actually have OCD? I am really curious and I must know!

Why would we respond personally?

Just a correction: he threw out the spatula because Kramer used it to scratch his back. I think I'd be throwing it away also.

Another example: he throws his shoelaces away because they touched the floor of a men's room.
