Last night's episode (5/2/96) was only 39 minutes long. That's 21 minutes of commercials (I did the math for you). That barely makes it "a special hour long" Seinfeld, as the NBC announcer so boldly proclaimed it.
What's with all the commercials
Fans complain that the hour-long special contains excessive commercials with only 39 minutes of actual content, leading to discussion about standard commercial breaks in television programming.
And this is news to you? A standard "half-hour-long" episode contains roughly 9-10 minutes of commercials, leaving about 20 minutes of actual show. Multiply that by 2 for a full hour, and you get almost exactly the results you got (I did the math for you). That's the way it's been for years, and that's the way it will be, until the networks talk the FCC into allowing them to run even more commercials than they do now.

. . . not counting the product placement and advertising that's going on during the show-- Pepsi, Snapple, Pez, Junior Mints, Jujy Fruit,... and - of course - Jerry's collection of cerials. But who cares? IM(and many other people's)HO it's still by far the best sitcom around.
