Recurring events on Seinfeld

    Let's try and find all of the lines or scenes on the show that had a
connection with previous shows.
Here's what I can remember for now.

Jerry in one show said "I've been waiting for this a long time" when his current gf was giving him a massage, referring of course to the masseuse (correct spelling?)

And the TV guide Guy who was building the Elaine lookalike mannequins.

When Elaine gets George a job with her publishing company (the cashmere sweater episode), Elaine's boss asks him what authors he likes to read. After George says Mike Lupica, and the boss is unimpressed, George panics and says he likes to read Art Vandelay, who wrote "Venetian Blinds." A classic George move.

BTW, a list of recurring themes would be horrendously long. There's something in almost every episode now that reminds us of something from a past episode. My favorite "themish" thing though was in last season's final episode (The Pilot), the "actors" reading for the parts of George, Elaine, and Kramer were given a few lines to read. These lines, taken "from the real people's lives," were in fact lines directly from old episodes. I really loved that idea.

That's what makes Seinfeld such a great show and why people who start watching it in the middle of the season don't like it. You have the watch a good percentage of the shows just to know what all the references and jokes are all about. This show is more like real life because what you do and say today is dependant on what you did and said before. Other shows start out with a clean slate at the start of each show (there may be major plot changes) which is why they go into sindication so well. Seinfeld will be like the Wonder Years when it goes in to sindication... shown in order.

It's this reason (and the reason I gave before--Seinfeld not being based on a family or family values) that makes it one of the best and original shows in all of history. Cavemen were probally sitting around going "I wish we had something funny to laugh at, like Jerry Seinfeld."

George's favorite word when he needs to come up with something, be it a name, a company, or a place has always been Vandalay. The first episode, it seemed like he was leaning toward the name "core," but I can still see him saying "Art... Art... Van...da..lay... Yeah, Art Vandalay" in that first show.

In the first episode, the fake name first suggested was "Bert Harbinsen," which was scuttled because it sounded made-up. Then, "Art Corevelay" was invented. Jerry and George argued, and then "Art Vandelay" was used. When Elaine's boss interviewed George for a job and asked him what authors he liked, he mentioned "Art Vandelay" (after mentioning NY Daily News sportswriter Mike Lupica, which didn't impress the boss). George said Vandelay was a hippie writer who wrote "Venetian Blinds." And, of course, there's the latex company Vandelay Industries.

or something like that. Anyway, he brings it up

in an early episode, jerry says: "how can anyone like the DOCKERS commer- cials? they're about NOTHING!!!"

and later he and george try to write a PILOT about NOTHING!!! .

The pilot episode was from last year (or 2 years ago) I remember seeing the dockers episode last month. Was it a rerun ??
