Seinfeld subtitles

Could I ask all the fans of the show in non first language english speaking countrys out there, does Seinfeld show dubbed or with subtitles,and your views on the way your t v stations air it ?

I'm from Finland and we have Seinfeld with subtitles. That's the deal with all foreign shows here. I think the subtitles are just fine and I am glad we don't have anything dubbed! (Besides some children's cartoons, that is). That would really ruin a lot of the jokes and I can't imagine how they could ever dub Kramer's stuttering! The subtitles don't cover all the lines and jokes, but in general, they are pretty accurate. And if you know English, you can catch what the subtitles may miss.

In Holland everything is aired in its original soundtrack, with Dutch subs. Quite annoying sometimes watching other stuff, but I'm glad it's not dubbed like in many other countries.

I still don't know why the hell the commercial breaks are sooooo long here. But right now on Belgium 1 there are no commercial breaks at all (however Seinfeld *never* starts on time!), like on BBC, which is great.

Here in Portugal nothing is dubbed. Subtitles only. In general, I think that dubbing is an artistic offense. I can't even tolerate the thought of hearing any of the Seinfeld 4 with a portuguese voice. AARRRRGHHHH!!!

Here in Germany *everything* is dubbed. Public TV sometimes shows movies in two languages, but never just the original language. I don't like it, but most people here prefer dubbed versions. Dubbing has a long tradition in Germany (East and West) and as far as I know movies and shows have always been dubbed in cinemas and TV.

In Poland tv shows *Seinfeld* with the translator - a man who speaks polish *in front* of oryginal quotes- they call it lektor. : ( All I can say it really sucks, because english phrases are in totally background and the guy, who translate into the polish is much louder, that you cannot hear the oryginal language.btw. all movies are translate like that : ( Right now I can watch just this poor quality realvideo-eps that I have from the web.

In Sweden we use subtitles and I think that's great. You have to listen to the English, or the word games are pointless... Also, you can't get everything into those two lines of text, without leaving essential information out. I would hate it if it was dubbed!

In France you have choice, either english with subtitles or dubbed in french (but very bad dubbing I think). You just have to press a key on the remote to choose

In Latin America Seinfeld is shown on Sony Entertainment Television, a cable network that broke the tradition of dubbed series. They have American shows like Friends, The Drew Carey Show, Frasier, Becker, Everybody Loves Raymond and many more, most with a few weeks of delay. In the daytime they rerun Seinfeld, Cheers, Taxi, The Cosby Show and many others. All the series that they show are subtitled and they promote the channel based on that feature.

Usually, series are seen dubbed and movies subtitled (except on non-cable channels, which are all dubbed). Because of the success of Sony Entertainment Television, some cable channels are starting to have their series subtitled.

Personally, I HATE dubbed versions. They usually don't respect the original dialogue (I've heard the guy who dubs Homer Simpson --sadly still dubbed but with the original version on the SAP-- say that he "improves" the show by adding his own jokes). I also cannot imagine a dubbed version of Seinfeld well done (I have seen a dubbed version of Friends and it's unbelievably bad). When an Argentinian public station tried broadcasting Seinfeld dubbed, they failed miserably.
