Most of the cast, when interviewed, admit that Seinfeld is nearing its end. Personally, although I've enjoyed the show immensely, I think it's time. The new season is a perfect example of this. The shows have been at their all time worst. Jerry's acting has deteriorated (probably due to his success driven ego) and the ideas are running thin. The last episode had Jerry and George "shout discussing" for minutes on end. Annoying as hell! There's only so much you can do with this kind of theme, anyway.
Usually a TV series that does well for a while starts to degrade. You can't stay on the peak of the curve forever. But if you have a fresh induction of good writers, you can keep it going. M*A*S*H was a perfect example of this. Even though it had gone on for some 12+ years, the last season was still quite good. Star Trek: The Next Generation had some weaknesses in the last season, but was definitely above average when compared to the worst seasons. Seinfeld, IMHO, has not been able to keep this kind of track record. Probably due to Jerry himself. Earlier interviews showed him as more humble. The last few portray a man that has been overcome with success. Just like Michael Stipe from REM. There's a guy who totally lost it, even though he had a pledge that success would not change him and the band. Well, shaved head, anti-social behavior, and lack of professionalism on the stage (had to buy sheet music before concerts because he couldn't remember the lines) were the result. Jerry's hat size has increased by at least two inches. Elaine seems a bit overloaded on fame as well. At least Kramer and George have retained at least some dignity.
