Get rid of Newman?

I think the dumbest single scene ever was the one where Jerry is chasing Newman around and around the hallway. The whole business about Newman being scared of getting beaten up by Jerry is ridiculous. I sure don't see where Newman brings much of anything to the show...

I don't like the Newman character, and I especially don't like the way he is hated by everyone and made the butt of jokes. I think they are implying that he is not part of the group and is hated because of being overweight. The treatment of Newman is cruel and should stop. I say get rid of him; he adds nothing to the show, and merely serves to show a mean side of Jerry.

Newman is my favorite minor character!! Everyone must have the arch enemy. Superman had Lex Luthor and Jerry has Newman! Under your mentality that means Superman Comics only put Lex Luthor in the comics to poke fun at Bald guys! Newman is needed. Everyone does not hat Newman. Kramer is always hanging out with him. I have never heard George or elaine complain (much) about Newman. In fact elaine used his services to get rid of the neighbor's dog in one episode. Newman is the yin to Jerry's Yang. If Jerry is good, than Newman is bad. Although catsing Jerry as the good guy seems hardly possible. (He pirate video-taped a movie, He was breaks up with everyone he goes out with, He is very uncaring - susan's death -. I like the Newman character, and I believe many others agree !

I don't think they hate him. Kramer hangs out with him. Jerry went for Newman when the group needed to know if Elaine's nipple was showing in her x-mas card picture. Kramer and Elaine went to Newman when they needed a mediator to decide who would keep the girl's bike. They like Newman, but only in small doses.

comment is that? That is the most ridiculus thing I have ever heard. Neuman is hated not because he is "overweight" but because he is sneaky and evil. If you ever actually watched Seinfeld for its entertainment value and not go looking for cruelty to fat people maybe you would have picked this up. Mike

"Show(s) a mean side of Jerry?" As if there were a nice side? Aside from letting Kramer raid his refrigerator, Jerry isn't much of a good friend to anyone. He's a little better than Elaine and George, but that probably has something to do with who one of the writers is (the one with the same name). The only good thing I can say about Jerry is that his relationship with his parents is passable; it doesn't violate any Biblical commandments.

The one member of the clique who has a nice side to him is, believe it or not, Kramer. He often offers to help out a friend. Of course, accepting his help is always a bad choice. :-)

Newman, of course, has almost no redeeming qualities. Well, maybe he has one: he's one postal employee who's never brandished a gun.

Hey, Jerry has a nice side and is a great friend the others. Jerry stole a marble rye for George is always giving him advice, trying to stop him from getting in over his head. Jerry has taken George with him to Atlantic City when he had a free extra ticket. Jerry helped George move in and out of his parents home. With Elaine, he has been her escort for the evening. He went to a friend's birthday party, to dinner with her dad and to visit a former boyfriend in the hospital. Jerry got tickets for Kramer and his film pirate friend, he followed Kramer to LA to apologize about taking his keys back and see if he was all right. Jerry is a great friend.

I agree. We should dump that fat slob NOW. He spilled popcorn all over Jerry at the last years Super Bowl. He ran up many traffic tickets and if it hadn't been for Kramer, vouching for him, (with his eye patch on), the judge would have given him a harsh sentence. He maintains slovenly living quarters. He tried to cheat Kramer in the game of "Risk". Kramer should have taken the Congo as a penalty. Dump The Slob!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

NO WAY . . . Newman consistently has some of the best lines on the show . . . like his "vile weed" comment on the Kenny Rogers broccoli . . . and just hearing Jerry say "Hello . . .Newman" is worth it alone!

I love his bit about "whoever controls the mail controls...information" from the lip reader one. Newman is so much better than the fat guy and his foreign language ranting monkeyboy they had in the earlier episodes.

I too say get rid of Newman, but not for the reasons that mr. Paranoid gives. I don't think Newman ads ANYTHING to the show--personally, he is annoying, whiney, and often doesn't fit well with the other characters (that's not a fat joke, by the way ;)). His voice is too raspy for my ears, and you just wanna slap him sometimes...just for that stupid grin of his. And finally (thank goodness!), his personality is too cartoonish. I think they added him in just to give Jerry an adversary. Bad move.

Of course, that's just my opinion, of course. If u like him, so be it.

No, don't get rid of Newman! He's a great character, but his best scenes are short ones. I don't want to see a 10 minute scene with him. I think his best scenes are the quick dialoge scenes with Jerry or Kramer.
