Unlike many of you, I'm sure, I only got into "Seinfeld" the past two years or so. Mostly, I began watching the syndicated shows at first, but it didn't take long to get hooked, that's for sure. Soon after, I made sure I never missed a new episode and over the course of some time, I wound up amassing a number of videotapes capturing the whole "Seinfeld" library (I also received the "Bloopers" tape as a gift).
So, it is with great sadness when I think of May and the final episode. Yes, we all have lives on this list, but over the years, we have gotten to know the characters as if they were our friends. Faithfully, for 30 minutes a week, they would take time to be with us and we would enjoy their company. Sadly, because of life's demands, that 30 minutes is sometimes more than I talk to my actual friends in a week...
I am very surprised at Jerry's decision, and it's got nothing to do with money. I read a report where he earned $94 million last year, so what's $5 mil an episode when you've already got that much stashed away?
I read a brief article in TV Guide a while back, and I saw Jerry on "Larry King Live" and both interviews made it seem as if the fans' reactions and their desires for more shows would drive his decision. Then, Jerry surprises us all and bows out. Could some of the idiotic comments on this list contributed? I wonder...
This show has raised the standard for sitcoms on prime-time TV. Just because "The Blood" wasn't as funny as "The Chinese Restaurant" doesn't necessarily mean that the show has lost all of its touch. A "bad" episode of "Seinfeld" beats a "good" episode of just about everything else. There have been many magic moments this season, and I am confident that we'll see many more before too long. Of course, the naysayers will now have their day and though some may have been applauding the recent "The Betrayal" and "The Strike". now that Jerry has decided to wrap it up, we'll be seeing all of the negative comments come out in full force (as if it already hasn't been done!) and giving the ol' "I told you so" and "It's about time".
I will continue to watch up to the end, and I'll watch every night possible in syndication. Then, I'll peruse my vids when necessary and watch some more. I will miss the show greatly, and I'll feel as if I'll be losing four close friends...
