Jerry's dad has also been changed. The first time he appeared he was one guy, and the second time (I think it was the florida episode) he was the other guy.
George's original dad, was John Randolph, who looks a little like Carl Reiner, and at one time was black-listed (like in the 50s) because he was a socialist.
But I could be mistaken. For all I know I'm hallucinating. I've done that quite a bit lately.

John Randloph played George's father before Jerry Stiller. The legendary Barney Martin has played Jerry's dad consistently throughout the run. He once uttered these magic words in the film, "Arthur," in conversation with daughter Liza Minelli:
"Are these Polish women?"

I think I also remember Jerry having a different father in The Pen episode. I'm not sure if this was the one.

Not that one...Morty Seinfeld has been played by Barney Martin in every appearance except for "The Stake Out" (the series premiere), in which he was played by Phil Bruns.
Frank Costanza was previously played by John Randolph in one episode, "The Handicap Spot," and is now played by Jerry Stiller, who began with the character's second appearance in "The Puffy Shirt."

No idea on why the change...My guess is that they were probably intended as one-time appearances but the writers decided to have them reappear. There were 18 (new) episodes between the two Morty Seinfelds...There was only two or three (depending on how many you count for "The Pilot") between the two Frank Costanzas, but there was also a season break in there.
the "Stakeout" episode...remember? What's wrong with Loni Anderson? He was a much smaller man with hair combed over from one side. Quone is not a word...no no no...you need a medical dictionary!! A patient, it's difficult, you quone 'em. Ring a bell?

That would be John Randolph (the last movie I remember seeing him in was CHRISTMAS VACATION, where he played Chevy Chase's father).

Perhaps because John Randolph was a little stale for the role, or maybe it had something to do with medical complications. I would also be interested in hearing an explaination.
