I read in an FAQ that Newman's first name had never been divulged, and I think I've seen posts here about it. But I could have sworn that someone once referred to him in a sentence that went something like: "You mean Hank Newman"... followed by something interesting about him. So is his first name Hank, or am I going crazy?

There was the actress who played a farmer's daughter who incorrectly said "good-bye Norman" in The Bottle Deposit episode but it is clear she was portrayed as being not too bright so the line was left in for the humour that even she did not know his name.

The only possiblity (using the show as a source) for a first name for Newman is NORMAN for the scene with the farmer's daughter screaming " Come back Norman". This has been discussed before on this board and no real conclusion has been reached. Either we were never told Newman's first name OR it's Norman like the young girl yelled. ALTHOUGH it was reported that the girl made a mistake & the producers left the scene as it was to "mess with our minds".

I always thought that her yelling "Norman" was done on purpose to show her lack of intelligence (sort of a stereotypical blonde farmer's daughter), as she misconstrued "Newman" as "Norman" (something we would've been likely to expect from Archie Bunker). I can't imagine a character named Norman Newman!!
